UNICRI Strengthens Counter-Proliferation Financing Norms and Sanctions in Southeast Asia

 

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is delighted to announce the successful completion of its first regional training program on "Counter-Proliferation Financing International Norms and Sanctions." This intensive 5-day program took place in Singapore from October 23 to 27, 2023.

The 19th Round-Table Meeting of CBRN CoE National Focal Points for Central Asia held in Almaty

 

The Regional Secretariat for Central Asia of the EU’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CoE) achieved another significant milestone by successfully organizing the 19th Round Table Meeting of the CBRN CoE National Focal Points for Central Asia on October 20th, 2023, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The meeting brought together a distinguished gathering of experts and key stakeholders to engage in dynamic discussion on critical CBRN threat-related issues.

L’utilisation délibérée et malveillante d’agents chimiques ou biologiques dans un environnement civil demande une planification, de l’organisation, des communications et peut impliquer des interactions avec plusieurs entités, potentiellement sur un certain nombre de pays et de régions. Ces types de crimes sont compliqués par la nature à double utilisation de l’équipement et des industries, et par l’aisance de l’acquisition d’un certain nombre de produits chimiques, de pathogènes biologiques et de toxines à haut risque.

3rd Regional peer-to-peer Workshop

 

On 26-28 June 2023 the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) organized the third regional peer-to-peer (P2P) workshop on emerging and potential regional threats of nuclear and radiological (RN) materials out of regulatory control (MORC).

Efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention in Southeast Asia

 

On the margins of the Ninth Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention, Japan, Lao PDR, the Philippines, the European Union and UNICRI delivered a joint side event showcasing “Efforts to Strengthen the Implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) in Southeast Asia”. The event was facilitated by Mr. Hirochika Namekawa, Counsellor of the Delegation of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament.

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) held the first peer-to-peer workshop on regional cooperation mechanisms in Southeast Asia for intelligence and law enforcement officers from Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Philippines in Phnom Penh from 21 to 22 November 2022.
