Newsletter on the work of EU CBRN Centre of Excellence in Central Asia in the time of COVID-19

This regional newsletter describes the completed and ongoing actions of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centres of Excellence Initiative (EU CBRN CoE) in Central Asia including the specific capacity building projects aimed at combating CBRN risks, in particular the new coronavirus. The Regional Secretariat's activities during the COVID-19 crisis are also highlighted: webinars, discussions, virtual round-tables, dissemination of information materials, activities of the on-site technical experts to raise awareness among the young generation, development of the CBRN Regional Action Plan in cooperation with the European Commission, updating the CoE Charter, and so on.

The newsletter also underlines the importance and the relevance of EU CBRN CoE Initiative and is a step to support the efforts of the National Focal Points, nominated in each country as liaisons of the activities. It has been produced in close collaboration between the Central Asia Regional Secretariat and the Centres of Excellence communication team.

UNICRI is supporting Member States in addressing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Together with the European Union, the Institute is working with 61 partner countries in 8 Regional Secretariats on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risk mitigation in the fight against the pandemic by ensuring knowledge sharing and dissemination of good practices.
